With a new year, many of us are evaluating and setting goals for 2014. Is preparedness one of your goals? I can't talk enough about how having a Q (monthly shipments of Thrive Foods) has moved us forward on our goal of a 1 year food store in our home! It keeps us moving forward every month! With a Q, I'm anxious each month to see the new monthly specials from Thrive Life. My Q processes on the 8th of the month, so today I am inventorying our home store and comparing to what's on sale (I love getting more for my money) and then will update my Q's shipment to take advantage of those sale items we need to build up. And if you have the new Q, or place an individual order, I want to point out the special on the Cansolidator Pantry! In our new home we actually have a pantry and it definitely needs some of these to keep it organized.

Is anyone else just realizing that it's mid-September?!  This month snuck up on me so fast that it's now the 12th and I'm finally sharing the September specials.  Guess you can add "calendar flying by too fast" as another reason I love having a Q!  No matter what I'm doing, how busy we are, each month my food storage grows because I have monthly shipments of items I've added to my Q list coming to my house.  SO easy, and rewarding as I look at our growing amount of food!

Thrive Life July Specials

I keep being amazed by how fast time is flying by this year, faster than ever before!  Makes me glad for my monthly shipments of Thrive to help prepare meals by having our favorite ingredients always on hand, and delivered to our door!  The specials for July are tempting my taste buds.  I've been wanting to try the sweet cherries, fuji apples, asparagus, and diced tomatoes for a while.  I'm also trying to build up the proteins in our home store so stocking up on the chopped chicken is also on my list.  It's going to be hard to stay on budget this month - too many things I want to order.

May Specials from Thrive Life and Snow in the Forecast

When I first saw the theme for the May specials, soups and sauces, I thought "It's May! It's time to start thinking warm temperatures, not soup!" Well, apparently Chef Todd and Thrive Life knew something I didn't and the joke is on me as I'm looking at the forecast for the next few days and it includes SNOW!  Some of the forecasts say little to no accumulation and other say several inches for my house.  I've saw one forecast that called for 10 inches at my sister's near Kansas City.  In May!  Part of me has this feeling we're going to get unexpectedly dumped on and then I wonder - what do we do if there's a snow day in May?  We only have two weeks left of school and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

November Specials!!

Just over 10 years ago, we first learned about celiac's disease because a new friend had it; basically someone with Celiac's can not eat any wheat products.  Over the years, we've learned more and more and had more friends discover they have either celiac's or a gluten intolerance.  The biggest thing I have learned is that you can't take ingredients for granted.  When dealing with a food allergy, you have to read and re-read labels.  I made a taco dip for my friend recently and discovered that some brands of salsa and sour cream actually have a form of wheat in them.  Another tip I learned was that often oats are processed in the same plant as wheat so there can be some cross-contamination.  You may notice on some foods you buy that it will say processed in facility that also processes wheat, nuts, etc. - that indicates the possibility of cross-contamination.  And if you're dealing with a food allergy, that is as important to know as the actual ingredients of a product.

Because of our limited experience (I am definitely NOT an expert on food allergies including wheat/gluten), I was excited to learn about Shelf Reliance's efforts to get gluten-free certifications on many of the THRIVE Foods.  When you receive your THRIVE shipments, you may start to notice stickers or a stamp labeled as Gluten Free.  This indicates they have been processed in the gluten-free facility.  If you want/need more details on the Gluten Free status of THRIVE Foods, please contact me and I will get you the information you need.
